❝𝒷𝑜𝓇𝓃 𝒻𝓇𝑜𝓂 𝒶 𝓌𝒾𝓈𝒽

as part of their 'ᴡᴇʟᴛʙʀᴇᴄʜᴇʀ' project, a corporation named sᴛᴀʀᴛᴇᴄʜ (named for its founder, sᴛᴀʀʟɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴏʀᴏᴜɢᴏᴏᴅ ʜᴏᴅɢᴇs, an american-born quincy and the 'father' of the life support and environmental control systems utilized upon the International Space Station) developed a satellite equipped with a high-powered spiritual 'laser': its purpose was to eliminate hollows on a massive scale from space, using celestial reishi from nearby stars as a power source. it would first fire a concentrated particle beam to 'destroy' a neighboring star, with sensors in place on the satellite's exterior to detect and convert the released energy to usable reishi. the weapon's reuptake mechanism would then trigger, gathering the converted reishi and storing it to be fired at will by ᴡᴇʟᴛʙʀᴇᴄʜᴇʀ's controller.

to date, ᴡᴇʟᴛʙʀᴇᴄʜᴇʀ was fired a single time, as a test. that test failed. while the celestial body ᴋɴ-601 was destroyed, and its reishi converted to a form usable by the cannon-equipped satellite, the reuptake mechanism failed to trigger, and the converted star — rather, the massive portion displaced by the cannon’s particle beam — simply Fell.

happenstance saw it fall into the soul society: a twist of fate saw the senkaimon opened, in use by a shinigami traveling between worlds. with that soul reaper came the fragment of ᴋɴ-601, and that fragment was quickly collected by representatives of the shinigami research and development institute.

from that fragment, and years of tireless (and dubiously moral) experimentation came the artificial shinigami, ᴋᴀɴᴏɴ, given the family name ‘ᴋᴜʀᴏᴛsᴜᴄʜɪ’ by the primary proponent of their creation. (as ᴋᴀɴᴏɴ had no strong attachment to either gender designation, they elected to be referred to as neither — singular ‘they/them’ pronouns are used in reference to ᴋᴀɴᴏɴ.)

curiously, a sample of ᴋɴ-601 in its original form was reported missing in the days leading up to kuchiki rukia's scheduled execution, but the occurrence was quickly forgotten in the consequent chaos.

that afore-mentioned sample found its way to hueco mundo in the hands of former-captain aizen sosuke.

sʜɪɴᴏɴ is, not unlike wonderweiss margela, a ᴍᴏᴅɪғɪᴇᴅ ᴀʀʀᴀɴᴄᴀʀ. though aizen's intention was to create a proper artificial shinigami like ᴋᴀɴᴏɴ, separating the sample of ᴋɴ-601 he'd removed from the SRDI from its source caused it to become 'corrupted': in lieu of a properly humanoid form like her sibling's, sʜɪɴᴏɴ mutated over the course of her creation into a form more closely resembling a fleshy plant: a bipedal one with functional appendages, to be certain, but one that produced flower and fruit along myriad vines sprouting from a hole at her spine's base.

that hole signified her emergence as a ʜᴏʟʟᴏᴡ.

after some short time spent studying her form and capabilities, deducing that sʜɪɴᴏɴ's spiritual pressure was not dissimilar to the ᴠᴀsᴛᴏ ʟᴏʀᴅᴇs that comprised his burgeoning host of ᴇsᴘᴀᴅᴀs, aizen utilized the ʜᴏɢʏᴏᴋᴜ to facilitate her transmogrification into an ᴀʀʀᴀɴᴄᴀʀ.

sʜɪɴᴏɴ's story and involvement in canon from this point is variable, based on individual interactions, but this is how she came to exist.

𝓹𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂 ⋮

sʜɪɴᴏɴ presents herself as someone gentle, kind, though her behavior is notably Alien. she struggles with verbal communication— less resultant of any defect in biology and moreso for anxiety: the star-made-hollow-made-humanoid is eager to glean knowledge of 'Normal' behavior, and that her awkward cadence and varying volume of speech is abnormal, she tends instead to emote broadly, and to emit simple sounds. she is endlessly fascinated with quintessentially sapient things: exploration of senses, experiences, as her three-hundred years of cognizance thusfar were spent as a passive 'observer' as ᴋɴ-601.

to this end, she is exceptionally 'touchy', and whether she fails to understand cues to the contrary or simply disregards them is questionable.

while she has existed in a physical form for a remarkably short time, she is Not unwise to the ways of the world, and not unlikely to take advantage of her apparent ignorance and resultant patience from those she encounters. she is ultimately self-serving, though her goal is innocuous enough: simply to experience as much as she's able, to form bonds, to Exist. despite this, in the name of 'friendship' (at least as she defines it), she's liable to gullibility and easily manipulated by those whose company she means to keep, as evidenced by her Unique relationship with her fraccion, averita.

she is not inherently violent (barring what she calls 'games'), but if cornered, sʜɪɴᴏɴ is willing and capable to defend herself. she lacks the innate knowledge of how much damage a sapient thing can endure before it is destroyed — in simpler terms, she does not know her own strength, or her own limitations, and is capable of being unintentionally destructive.

conversely, she is Exceptionally lazy: her lack of shoes is less a stylistic choice and more indicative of her expectation to be carried wherever she's needed. this laziness is curbed in her propensity to ... Borrow things. either for lack of understanding or outright lack of concern, if sʜɪɴᴏɴ encounters something she'd like to have, she Will simply take it, and her makeshift 'palace' is full of pilfered things. she especially enjoys odds and ends from the world of the living.

𝓪𝓫𝓲𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓲𝓮𝓼 ⋮

rudimentary bladework: while sʜɪɴᴏɴ's cempasúchil takes the form of a small dagger in lieu of the more common katana, she is capable of wielding it with some level of competence, though she is mostly unwilling to do so.

advanced hand-to-hand combatant: despite her relatively slight stature, sʜɪɴᴏɴ is a more than capable scrapper. while she's received no formal training, her survival instincts have endowed her with the ability to leverage her small size for speed and precision in combat, opting for sharp, swift strikes in lieu of heavier, wider ones. mind your ribs if you mean to keep what's between them.

sonído master: again, sʜɪɴᴏɴ is remarkably fast. she sacrifices a great deal of her speed in her resurreción form, however.

cero: her weapon of choice, sʜɪɴᴏɴ's cero is a shimmery, opalescent peach and remarkably strong, even among her fellow espada. while she primarily fires from her sternum, signified by her hands cupped as if holding water just below it, she is capable of executing a weaker cero from the hole at the base of her spine without a related gesture.

bala: this technique hardens the user's spiritual pressure and fires it like a bullet from their fist. sʜɪɴᴏɴ's is a similar opalescent peach tone as her cero, and similarly strong.

descorrer: she's adept at rending the space between hueco mundo and the living world, and does so often with relative ease.

THE GIFT: the great Boon of her creation. shinon's plant-like nature, and the manifestation of 'rebirth' as her aspect of death, begets that she is able to produce a small host of 'seeds'. upon consumption of these 'seeds', their recipients can be 'reborn' from the vines of her release form ad infinitum, as long as sʜɪɴᴏɴ lives, and is in fair enough condition both to maintain her form and to replicate the recipient's reiatsu signature.

upon consumption, her own reiatsu enters the recipient's body and self-replicates, not unlike a virus. it affixes itself to the recipient's (implying, of course, that the recipient must also bear some modicum of spiritual pressure) and the fusion allows sʜɪɴᴏɴ to duplicate the recipient's form for familiarity to her own.

while sʜɪɴᴏɴ's hierro is only a mite sturdier than a standard human body, she accounts for the lack in her regenerative capabilities: in her resurreción form, she is capable of sharing those regenerative capabilities by producing flesh fruits from the vines sprouting from her spine, healing their consumer in an amount relative to the size of the fruit produced.

despite her own immense spiritual pressure, sʜɪɴᴏɴ's propensity for pesquisa is relatively weak: she has difficulty judging the spiritual pressure of friend and foe alike, but as a result is mostly immune from the adverse effects of proximity to a person with similarly immense spiritual pressure. (in simpler terms: She's Clueless.)

𝔃𝓪𝓷𝓹𝓪𝓴𝓾𝓽𝓸 ⋮

sʜɪɴᴏɴ's cempasúchil responds to the release command, 'ʜᴜᴍ,' and her altered form resultant is not unlike her original hollow form: a bipedal, fleshy 'flower' creature whose size mirrors that of her normal form, with sharpened 'talons' at finger- and toe-tip and myriad vines sprouting from the base of her spine.
